On May 10 Alcatel Shanghai Bell opened a new R&D center in the Tianfu Software Park in the city of Chengdu, China. The new center currently employs 300 engineers, and will focus on new telecommunication technologies, and the integration of optical, mobile, and wireless transmission solutions. The company stated that mobile NGN development will also be covered by the new center, which will provide services to both Chinese and overseas clients.
